Job description

These individuals install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems.

Main tasks

  • Erect and maintain poles, towers, and cables.
  • Splice (assemble), weld, and insulate conductors and cables.
  • Check and test power lines and cables.
  • Climb ladders or use aerial baskets to work at heights.
  • Lay and maintain cables in confined spaces (trenches, tunnels, etc.).
  • Install and maintain street lighting networks.
  • Communicate with other workers to coordinate work.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Power Line Technicians receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
