Correspondence and Publication Clerks
Job description
These individuals perform a variety of tasks depending on their duties. Some draft and prepare documents (classified ads, correspondence, etc.). Others read publications, check the accuracy of the information in them, and identify corrections to be made. Others compile, process, and produce documents (contracts, permits, etc.).
Main tasks
Classified Ads Clerks
- Take orders for classified ads.
- Draft and prepare texts.
- Calculate advertising costs and prepare invoices.
Correspondents
- Write correspondence (e.g. letters, responses to requests for information and assistance, etc.).
- Check the accuracy of documents.
Editorial Assistants and Publications Clerks
- Assist in the preparation of publication material.
- Correct proofs.
- Conduct research to check facts.
Proofreaders
- Read texts before publication to identify grammatical, typographical, or compositional mistakes.
Manuscript Readers and News Clippers
- Read publications (newspapers, magazines, etc.).
- Cut out and file articles that may be of interest to staff and customers.
Regulatory Clerk
- Compile, verify, record, and process forms and documents (e.g. permits, licences, contracts) according to established procedures.
- Authorize and release documents once applications have been processed and approved.
Advancement and mobility
- Experience leads to supervisory positions.
