These individuals perform and supervise surgical procedures. They may perform general surgery or specialize in specific types of surgery (thoracic, pediatric, etc.). They work for:
- Hospitals and other health facilities
- Private medical clinics and specialized medical centres

Main tasks
- Assess diseases or disorders to determine appropriate surgical procedures.
- Perform and supervise surgical procedures to correct abnormalities, physical deficiencies, or injuries.

- Conduct research, as required.
- Follow up on health conditions when required.
