Job description
These individuals provide care for children. They look after their well-being and their physical and social development. They help parents with childcare and perform household chores. This group includes home-based childcare providers and foster parents. These individuals work at home or at the children’s home and are either self-employed or work through childcare agencies.

Main tasks
Home-Based Childcare Providers
- Watch and take care of children at home.
- Provide a variety of childcare services (feeding them, dressing them, bathing them, etc.).
- Plan, prepare, and serve children’s meals.
- Perform housekeeping.
- Supervise children’s activities (meals, naps, etc.) as directed by the parents.
- Ensure the children’s safety, social development, and emotional well-being.
- Discipline children by using the means indicated by the parents.
- Organize and participate in activities (games, crafts, reading, outings, etc.).
- Accompany children to school or appointments.
- Keep a record of each child’s daily activities and health status as needed.
Foster Parents
- Raise children as family members, usually on a temporary basis.
- Consult with foster care supervisors as required.
- Operate childcare programs according to established guidelines.
