Job description
These individuals perform tasks related to hairstyling (cutting, colouring, setting, etc.) considering the tastes and morphological characteristics of clients. They also offer hair care services. They are self-employed or work in:
- Private residences (home salon)
- Beauty salons
- Shopping malls
- Residences for the elderly
- Home-care centres
- Cinema and television dressing rooms

Main tasks
- Shampoo and cut hair.
- Apply hygienic and curative treatments to the scalp and hair.
- Analyze hair and scalp to give advice on their maintenance.
- Sell products and order supplies.
- Lay, clean, and style wigs, hairpieces, and extensions.
- Greet customers and make appointments.
- Maintain the workplace.
- Learn about products, fashion trends, and new technologies.
- Act as a judge in contests, as required.
- Train and supervise staff, as required.
Advancement and mobility
- Qualified Hairstylists receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination
