Job description

These individuals make, transform, and repair clothing and accessories.

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Nontoxic dust

Main tasks

Tailors

  • Make custom-made clothing (suits, coats, etc.) according to customer and manufacturer specifications.
  • Draw patterns.
  • Mark, cut, and sew fabric.
  • Fit, alter, and repair garments as required.

Dressmakers

  • Make clothes.
  • Select and modify commercial patterns according to customer and manufacturer specifications.
  • Mark, cut, and sew fabric.
  • Modify or repair clothing as required.

Furriers

  • Make, transform, and repair natural fur clothing and accessories.

Milliners

  • Stretch, cut, sew, and press various materials (fabric, leather, etc.).
  • Design and make accessories (e.g. hats).

Retouchers

  • Fit, transform, and repair clothing according to customer requests
