Job description

These individuals build, install, and repair structures made of various materials (wood, steel, etc.). They fit and install construction structures (kitchen cabinets, stairs, door frames, etc.). They maintain and renovate wooden buildings. They are self-employed or mostly work on construction sites.

Main tasks

  • Study plans, drawings, and sketches to determine the technical specifications of the structures to be built.
  • Take measurements and calculate the quantity of materials necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes.
  • Erect foundations.
  • Cut, shape, and smooth various materials (e.g. fibreglass) according to measurements.
  • Install floor beams and lay flooring support.
  • Erect pre-assembled framing and roofing components that are steady and functional.
  • Supervise personnel.
  • Produce evaluative estimates, as required.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Carpenters obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.

The hourly wage is calculated by averaging wages from 2022 to 2024.
