Job description

These individuals cut and install glass and glass walls on buildings and various products (e.g. furniture).

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature
  • Hazardous workplaces

Main tasks

  • Interpret plans to determine the type of glass to be installed, the preferred method, and materials required.
  • Measure, mark, and cut glass.
  • Tint glass and engrave or treat it to create patterns.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding as well as adjustment and lifting equipment.
  • Lay tiles in frames.
  • Attach prefabricated glass elements, mirrors, or glass products to walls.
  • Make metal frames and install glass.
  • Replace glass in furniture and other accessories.
  • Maintain structures used to retain glass (windows, doors, etc.).
  • Replace damaged glass and sealants.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Glaziers obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.

The hourly wage is calculated by averaging wages from 2022 to 2024.
