Job description

These individuals lay glued but not nailed coverings (tiles, asphalt, cork, etc.). They also lay carpets and rugs. They mainly work on construction sites or on commercial or institutional renovation projects.

Main tasks

  • Prepare the floor to ensure that the installation surfaces are sufficiently smooth.
  • Interpret plans and technical drawings.
  • Apply the appropriate adhesive according to the surfaces to be covered.
  • Replace coverings in existing buildings.
  • Measure, cut, and adjust the coating.
  • Repair floorboards and carpets.
  • Estimate the costs of materials.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Flexible Covering Layers receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.

Training and requirements

Formation

Most training programs are offered in French only.
