Job description

These individuals supervise and coordinate personnel working in the mining industry. They work in:

  • Underground metalliferous mines
  • Underground non-metalliferous mines
  • Quarries

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature
  • Hazardous workplaces
  • Noise

Main tasks

  • Supervise and coordinate Heavy Equipment Operators, Drillers, and Blasters.
  • Establish work methods to meet deadlines and coordinate work with other sections.
  • Order materials and supplies.
  • Resolve work-related problems and recommend measures to increase productivity.
  • Manage staff and ensure their training.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.
  • Draft reports.

Advancement and mobility

  • There is mobility between different positions, especially for supervisors with post-secondary degrees.
  • Mobility between the open pit and underground mining sectors may be limited by differences in production techniques and licensing requirements.
