Job description

These individuals organize, control, and evaluate public utilities. They may also work in heating fuel distribution companies.

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks

Water Department Managers

  • Manage water filtration and purification processes and pumping operations.
  • Plan and monitor the maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Draft reports on water supply and quality.

Electricity Distribution System Managers

  • Manage the operations of electricity distribution systems (e.g. power plants, transmission stations, distribution networks).
  • Plan and direct, as required, the distribution of electricity from a municipal utility.

Natural Gas Supply Managers

  • Manage the delivery of gas to customers.
  • Check stocks.
  • Control the recording of deliveries and withdrawals.

Petroleum Product Distribution Managers

  • Plan and direct the distribution of heating oil to regional retailers and warehouses.

Water Pollution Control Service Managers

  • Manage wastewater treatment systems.
  • Plan and direct equipment maintenance.
  • Draft water quality reports.

Waste Management System Managers

  • Manage solid and liquid waste collection and disposal systems.
  • Ensure the training of drivers assigned to waste handling.
  • Ensure the safe operation of the facilities.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to senior management positions.
