Adoption changes filial ties. Whether the child comes from Quebec, Canada or abroad, different rules apply.

Adoption in Québec

Adoption services are the responsibility of the CISSS providing protective and rehabilitative services for troubled youth.

International adoption

To adopt a child, you must submit your application to the Secrétariat à l'adoption internationale and complete certain essential steps.

Search for information on the family of origin or on the child in adoption

Services offered to help you find information on your parents of origin and contact your family.

Family mediation in adoption

You may be entitled to a family mediation service if you want to adopt a child or if you are giving your child up for adoption.

Communication agreement

You can allow certain biological family members to maintain or develop a relationship with your child after the adoption.

Medical information

If your child's health justifies it, his or her doctor can obtain the medical information of his or her biological parents.
