Aim for Employment Program Benefit Amounts

If you are participating in the Aim for Employment Program, here are the monthly benefit amounts you may be eligible for, depending on your situation.

Allowable work income

Income may be earned without reducing your benefit. The allowable work income is $200 for an independent adult and $300 for two adults. Adults are entitled to an additional amount if they receive at least $1 in benefits. This amount is equal to 25% of the amount that exceeds the allowable work income.

Amount for an independent adult participant

If you are an independent adult participating in the Aim for Employment Program, your basic benefit is $800, plus a $45 adjustment to the basic benefit.

Example calculation:

  • Basic benefit: 1 238 $
  • Adjustment to the basic benefit: 45 $
  • Total benefit : 1 283 $

Amount for two adult participants

If you are two adults participating in the Aim for Employment Program, your basic benefit is $1,238, plus a $45 adjustment to the basic benefit.

Example calculation:

  • Basic benefit: 1 238 $
  • Adjustment to the basic benefit: 45 $
  • Total benefit : 1 283 $

Amount for a participating adult and a non-participating adult

If you live with an adult and only one of you is a participant, you can receive a monthly benefit of $1,238, to which one or more adjustments may be added.

Example calculation:

  • Basic benefit: 1 238 $
  • Adjustment to the basic benefit: 45 $
  • Total benefit : 1 283 $

If the non-participating adult has health-related limitations, an additional $169 monthly allowance is provided.

Example calculation of the work income supplement

Here is an example of a person receiving $845 a month in social assistance.

In addition to this benefit, this person works, earning a monthly wage of $360. An independent adult can earn up to $200 in work income without reducing their benefit. In this example, the monthly wage exceeds the allowable work income by $160.

$160 will therefore be deducted from the benefit.

$845 - $160 = $685

The benefit is $685 after accounting for work income.

With the application of the work income supplement, 25% of the amount in excess of the work income excluded from the calculation will be added to the benefits, which is $40 in this example (25% x $160).

$685 + $40 = $725

The monthly benefit will therefore be $725.
