You can deposit a sum related to a financial debt if no legal proceedings have been initiated at the time of the deposit. This option is offered to an individual or to a representative of a corporation or organization.
Why consign a sum
You can deposit a sum with the Bureau général de dépôts pour le Québec to meet one or more financial obligations in an extrajudicial case, in accordance with article 1583 of the Civil Code.
You may have to deposit an amount on consignment if, for example:
- you owe a sum to a creditor who refuses to receive it;
- you owe a sum to a creditor who is absent from the place where the debt is payable;
- there is a dispute between several parties over a sum.
Procedure
Compile the following information and documents:
- a letter explaining the events and the nature of the debt clearly and in detail;
- the names and addresses of the persons to whom the amount must be paid;
- other documents that may justify the need for consignment.
Then send your documents by email. Upon receipt, your request will be analyzed. If the request is accepted, we will tell you how to deposit the sum. Once the sum has been cashed, a receipt will be issued to the depositor.
