Conseils climat is a system that notifies the population before there is a heat wave. Warning messages are sent by telephone, e-mail or text, depending on the subscriber’s preference. In addition to notifying subscribers of an incoming heatwave, the system offers advice on how to protect their health from the effects of heat.
Warning messages for other events influenced by climate (ex., episodes of smog or pollen) might eventually be included in the system. The project is funded under the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy.
Who is this service for
Anyone can subscribe to Conseils climat, but it is particularly for the following groups:
Elderly persons (65 and older);
People with chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, heart, lung or kidney problems, etc.);
Young children (through a parent).
These groups are the most vulnerable to the heat because of their fragile health or difficulty adapting to the heat.
How does it work
To receive warnings from Conseils climat, you must sign up for it. It’s free. Subscribers receive a message the day before a heatwave as a warning that it is coming. The messages are offered in French or English. Only those who have subscribed will receive them. You can unsubscribe at any time.
