Eligibility for living kidney donation

Anyone can decide to donate a kidney. However, they must:

be 18 years of age or older;
be able to provide free and informed consent;
meet various criteria with respect to their physical and psychosocial health.

Some health problems are a contraindication to kidney donation:

serious heart disease;
active or recent cancer;
diabetes;
kidney disease and kidney failure.

There is no age limit for living kidney donation if there are no medical contraindications.
