Reimbursement of costs for living kidney donation

Being paid or receiving some form of compensation for organ donation is illegal in Canada.

Donating an organ can result in various costs for the donor during the process. A Reimbursement Program for Living Donors has been created by the Government of Québec to reimburse some of the expenses incurred, such as travel, accommodation and meals.

The reimbursement program is administered by Transplant Québec. Anyone in Québec, Canada or outside Canada who wishes to donate an organ to a recipient who lives in Québec and who has a valid Québec health insurance card is eligible for the program.

For more information about the Reimbursement Program for Living Donors, see the Living Organ Donation section on the Transplant Québec website.
