In Québec, the practice of telehealth is regulated in the same way as in-person professional practices with patients.
Every professional order, including the Collège des médecins du Québec, is required to oversee the practice of its members. However, certain best practices must be followed, regardless of the profession, in particular:
Compliance with obligations regarding confidentiality and the protection of personal information. This includes educating the patient and the professional to participate in virtual care in a space that facilitates confidentiality;
Health care professionals must use technologies that are recommended and certified by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux;
Health professionals must obtain consent from their patients before using virtual care.
