A new measure to encourage foreign students to undertake higher education in French in the regions was announced today by the Gouvernement du Québec.

Starting in fall 2023, foreign students who meet the eligibility criteria will pay the same tuition applicable to Québec students, until they obtain their diploma.

To be eligible, the foreign student will have to attend a college or university learning institution located outside the territory of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal and pursue a full-time French program of study targeted under Opération main-d’œuvre in one of the prioritized sectors.

Training programs in strong demand

These training programs are in all fields of information technology, engineering, health and social services, education and childcare services where new jobs will have to be filled in all regions of Québec over the next few years.

The conditions to benefit from the exemption and the list of eligible learning institutions and programs of study will be available soon on Québec.ca.

Also remember that foreign students may benefit from the services of Accompagnement Québec, which offers them free individualized support during their academic path to favour their integration.
