A word about crime prevention

Prevention is an essential lever to fight against crime in Québec. It facilitates upstream intervention among young people, vulnerable individuals and those experiencing social disruption, at risk of delinquency, or of adopting a criminal lifestyle.

The Québec government is supporting community organizations and enhancing service offerings to young people through various initiatives. Police forces are also focusing on prevention in the field both from the standpoint of reducing crime and enhancing security in living environments or the public’s peace of mind.

In addition to numerous measures stemming from strategies and actions plans, the Ministère de la Sécurité publique is managing seven funding programs This hyperlink will open in a new window. to support the municipalities and organizations in the realm of crime prevention. It also administers funds from the federal government to ensure safer communities.

These programs and measures rally stakeholders from the policing, educational, community, governmental, and university sectors to promote positive paths for young people. The productive partnerships between the stakeholders facilitate action upstream from criminal phenomena to enhance Quebecers’ security.
