Report an obstruction to the right to hunt, fish, trap and free movement
Everyone has access to public land and the right to hunt, fish and trap. Any obstruction to these rights can be reported by contacting SOS Poaching at 1‑800‑463‑2191. This service is free and confidential.
In case of a report, a wildlife protection officer will:
Meet with you to hear your side of the story;
Ask you to commit to testifying if the case is referred to legal authorities;
Collect the suspect’s version;
Analyze the evidence and file an investigation report.
In the case of criminal offences such as threats, you will be directed to the appropriate police force.
Applicable penalties
A first offence committed under the Act respecting the conservation and development of wildlife is liable to a fine of up to $5,000.
For any subsequent offence within five years after the date of conviction for an offence under the same provision, the fine may be up to $15,000. In addition to the fine, a judge may impose a term of imprisonment of 90days.
