Charging stations to go anywhere

The deployment of charging stations for electric vehicles is advancing more rapidly. Find out more about available charging infrastructures and how to charge an electric vehicle.

116,000 public charging points by 2030

Thinking about driving an electric vehicle? You’re not alone!

More than 420,000 electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles are already on Québec roads. That number is expected to reach two million by 2030.

With its network of public charging stations, Québec has a head start. Almost 28,700 public charging points are already in service, counting subsidized charging stations in the workplace, including around 2,400 fast-charging points as of September 30, 2025.

According to Québec’s Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy, everything will be put in place so that more than 116,000 public charging points are in service by 2030. EV drivers will be able to recharge their vehicles whenever they need to.

Understanding your charging needs

You don’t have to charge your electric vehicle every day, nor do you have to charge it to full capacity.

To improve battery life, most electric vehicles should not be charged too frequently to more than 90% of their capacity.

Your charging needs are determined by:

  • the electric range of the vehicle model you drive;
  • its battery characteristics;
  • your travel habits;
  • the outside temperature (extreme cold or heat);
  • your driving style;
  • how often you drive and travel.

Myths and reality

Battery range is still limited.

Every year, the average range of fully electric vehicles continues to grow. For example, 2023 models have an average range of 435 kilometres, 21 kilometres more than the previous year’s models. That’s almost the equivalent of a round trip between Montréal and Québec City!

There aren’t enough public charging stations in Québec.

Public charging stations are already available in all regions of Québec, and their number is growing rapidly.

The Stratégie québécoise sur la recharge de véhicules électriques provides for the deployment of public charging stations to keep pace with the deployment of electric vehicles.

Charging your electric vehicle takes too long!

It all depends on your vehicle and the type of station you use. Over 80% of charging takes place at home overnight, and it only takes a few seconds to plug in and unplug your vehicle.

Electric vehicles, like the power level of charging stations, are evolving rapidly, enabling increasingly faster charging.
