Example for determining the final result in Secondary IV and V
Here are examples for determining the final result in Secondary IV and V for a subject with one competency or several components.

Examples for determining the final result for a subject with one competency
Chloe, Lillian and Xavier, three Secondary IV students, attend different schools. They all wrote a ministerial examination in History of Québec and Canada, and just received their achievement record.
The final result for each student was determined using the following four marks:
the raw school mark: the final mark that appears on the school’s report card
the moderated school mark: the school mark that the student obtained after it was moderated by the Ministère; this is the mark used to determine the final result
the ministerial examination mark: the mark that the student obtained on the ministerial examination
the converted ministerial examination mark: the mark that the student obtained on the ministerial examination after conversion, if applicable
Example of a final result without conversion
Chloe’s school mark was 71% and her mark on the ministerial examination was 60%.
Her mark on the ministerial examination remained at 60% since there was no conversion. After moderation by the Ministère, her school mark was lowered to 68%.
On her achievement record, Chloe’s final result for History of Québec and Canada is therefore 64%.
Calculating the final result for Chloe: (50% of 68%) + (50% of 60%) = 64%
Example of a final result adjusted to the ministerial examination mark without conversion
Xavier’s school mark was 62% and his mark on the ministerial examination was 70%.
His mark on the ministerial examination remained at 70% since there was no conversion. After moderation by the Ministère, his school mark was raised to 64%.
Calculating the final result for Xavier: (50% of 64%) + (50% of 70%) = 67%
Since the final result cannot be lower than the mark on the ministerial examination, Xavier obtained 70% for History of Québec and Canada.
On his achievement record, Xavier’s final result for History of Québec and Canada is therefore 70%.
Example of a final result with conversion
Lillian’s school mark was 80% and her mark on the ministerial examination was 61%.
Then, after conversion, her mark on the ministerial examination increased to 63%. After moderation by the Ministère, her school mark was lowered to 76%.
On her achievement record, Lillian’s final result for History of Québec and Canada is therefore 70%.
Calculating the final result for Lillian: (50% of 76%) + (50% of 63%) = 70%
The final result for the subject is always rounded to the nearest integer.

Examples for determining the final result for a subject with several competencies or components
For subjects with more than one component, a final result is awarded to each component. The final result for the subject takes into account the final result for each component based on the weighting set out in the Framework for the Evaluation of Learning.
For example, in the Secondary IV Science and Technology program (555-444):
the Theory component (555-410), counts for 60% and is evaluated by the teacher and by the Ministère by means of a ministerial examination
the Practical component (555-420), counts for 40% and is evaluated solely by the teacher
Here are some examples of the calculation of the final result for a subject made up of several components.
Example of a final result with conversion
Chloe’s school mark was for the Theory component 80% and her mark on the ministerial examination was 61%.
Then, after conversion, the mark for the ministerial examination was set at 64%. After moderation by the Ministère, her school mark was lowered to 72%. Her final result for this component is therefore 68%.
Calculating the final result for this component: (50% of 64%) + (50% of 72%) = 68%
Chloe’s school mark for the Practical component is 90%, which represents her final result for this component.
On her achievement record, Chloe’s final result for Science and Technology is therefore 77%.
Calculating Chloe's final result in the subject:
Theory component: 60% of 68% = 40.8%
Practical component: 40% of 90% = 36%
Final result: 40.8% + 36% = 76.8%
The final result for the subject is rounded to the nearest integer, which results in 77% on the achievement record.

Example of a final result adjusted to the ministerial examination mark with conversion
Xavier’s school mark for the Theory component was 68% and his mark on the ministerial examination was 75%.
Then, after conversion, the mark for the ministerial examination was set at 76%. After moderation by the Ministère, his school mark was raised to 70%.
His final result for this component is therefore 76%, since the final result cannot be lower than the mark on the ministerial examination.
Xavier’s school mark for the Practical component is 72%, which represents his final result for this component.
On his achievement record, Xavier’s final result for Science and Technology is therefore 74%.
Calculating Xavier's final result in the subject:
Theory component: 60% of 76% = 45.6%
Practical component: 40% of 72% = 28.8%
Final result: 45.6% + 28.8% = 74.4%
The final result for the subject is rounded to the nearest integer, which results in 74% on the achievement record.

Example of a final result without conversion
Lillian’s school mark for the Theory component was 76% and her mark on the ministerial examination was 72%.
Her mark on the ministerial examination remained at 72% since there was no conversion. After moderation by the Ministère, her school mark was lowered to 74%. Her final result for this component is therefore 73%.
Lillian’s school mark for the Practical component is 61%, which represents her final result for this component.
Calculating Lillian's final result in the subject:
Theory component: 60% of 73% = 43.8%
Practical component: 40% of 61% = 24.4%
Final result: 43.8% + 24.4% = 68.2%
The final result for the subject is rounded to the nearest integer, which results in 68% on the achievement record.
