What role should mistakes play in the learning process and in the development of mathematical competencies? How can mistakes be turned into a tool for learning? This session aims to demystify the role mistakes play in the mathematical learning process and to transform the anxiety associated with making mistakes into a source of motivation and engagement for students. A number of teaching and learning strategies that use different types of mistakes to ensure competency development are presented.

How can learning in mathematics be optimized? What links the three mathematical competencies? What are the links between the different branches of mathematics and concepts at play? This session aims to highlight various intradisciplinary links that give meaning to the learning acquired in mathematics. Examples related to each cycle illustrate ways of making learning more concrete and meaningful for students, while optimizing teaching time.

This information session provides explanations about the components of conjectures of the secondary school mathematics program. Introductory conjecture activities that aim to equip students to make, validate and demonstrate conjectures are presented. Strategies for creating tasks related to conjectures and examples that can be used in the classroom are shared.

In 1997, a reference document entitled Graphs Notation and Symbols Used in Secondary School Mathematics was published. Since then, the use of technological tools has evolved considerably. The updated document entitled Notation, Symbols and Representations Used in Mathematics was brought into line with the current secondary school mathematics program. The recording of an information session is also available on the website for the secondary school mathematics program. At this session, details about the updated document were presented.
