The Arab Republic of Egypt offers between 20-30 scholarships for short-term internships each year. Internships may be held in institutions, research centres, or public or governmental educational institutions in Egypt.

Scholarships are given to Québec professors, researchers, public servants and students.

Program description

The scholarships are awarded for a period of two to four months. Courses in public universities in Egypt begin in October of each year.

Scholarships are awarded in priority in the following fields:

  • Arabic language
  • archaeology
  • history
  • political science

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

Type of support

The scholarships awarded include:

  • a monthly allowance of 450 Egyptian pounds (E£) and another E£225 for housing
  • exemption from registration and tuition fees at a public university in Egypt
  • in case of illness, free medical treatment in university and public hospitals
  • exemption from taxes

Application procedure

Your application must contain one copy of the following documents, in the following order:

  • The formulaire d’inscription (registration form) (PDF 281 Kb).
  • A letter of intent describing your study plan or research project in Egypt.
  • A certified copy of your postsecondary diplomas.
  • Your résumé.
  • An original copy of a certificate attesting to your knowledge of Arabic, if you are applying to a program dedicated to the study of this language. Certificates completed by a language assistant will not be accepted.
  • A photocopy of your act of birth certified by a Commissioner for Oaths. If you were not born in Canada, you must provide a certified photocopy of your proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residence, including proof of your status as a Québec resident as defined in the Regulation respecting the definition of resident in Québec.
  • Two recent passport-size photographs.
  • Two confidential letters of recommendation, typed on the official letterhead of the educational institution from which they originate, and signed in ink. These letters must be written by associate professors and must be sent by the signatories or by the educational institution directly to the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.
  • Official transcripts of your university studies.

You must gather your application documents into a single, compressed, encrypted and password-protected folder. Then send it to the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur at the following email address:

bge@mes.gouv.qc.ca

You must provide the Ministère with your password separately. This can be done using an email that is separate from the one containing the encrypted folder.

Selection process

An evaluation committee examines the applications in accordance with the following criteria:

  • previous educational experience
  • relevance of the study plan or research project (expected spin-offs for the host and home communities, and for the applicant’s personal journey)
  • motivation (e.g. interest in discovering the culture and learning the language of the host country)
  • careful presentation of the application

The government offering the scholarships makes the final selection.
