Become an Apprentice - Learning a Trade While Receiving a Salary
The Workplace Apprenticeship Program (PAMT) allows you to learn a trade and to obtain a certificate of professional qualification.
You can learn this trade on the job and receive a salary during your training. You will be trained by an experienced employee (journeyperson) would will pass on their know-how. This approach is called the journeyperson system.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the PAMT, you must
- be at least 16 years of age
- work for a company enrolled or interested in enrolling in this program.

If you have a job
If you would like to learn one of the trades practised in the company you work for, you could follow the PAMT. Contact the person in charge of human resources to let them know you are interested and talk to them about the PAMT.
You can tell them that all the important information is available on the Former des apprentis page (in French). A qualifying agent is available to answer their questions.
If you are looking for a job
If you are applying for a job at a company that has employees practising a trade eligible for the PAMT (in French), you could follow the program.
Contact the person in charge of human resources to let them know you are interested and talk to them about the PAMT.
Processing the application
Once your employer has completed your enrollment, a qualifying agent will explain your responsibilities and those of your employer.
You will receive your apprenticeship booklet, which includes the skills you need to master and a detailed apprenticeship plan.
Once you have completed your training, you will receive a certificate of professional qualification issued by the Gouvernement du Québec, if you master all the required skills.
If you do not master all the required skills, you will receive an attestation of competency for the skills you do master.
Canada-wide recognized certificate (Red Seal)
Your certificate of professional qualification could be recognized elsewhere in Canada with the Red Seal Program.
