Job description

These individuals manage information contained in health records of health and social services users. They update biopsychosocial files. They classify, code, analyze, and interpret healthcare data. They ensure the protection of the public by limiting access to records to authorized persons, according to the legal framework in force. They work for:

  • Medical clinics
  • Hospital centres
  • Local Community Service Centres (CLSCs)
  • Consulting firms

Main tasks

  • File and store medical documents.
  • Compile medical, social, and administrative statistics for research purposes.
  • Compile data from specialized registries (tumours, trauma, etc.)
  • Manage clinical information systems and databases by helping to implement and update programs.
  • Guarantee the security and confidentiality of medical data by limiting access to information to authorized persons.

Advancement and mobility

  • Additional training and experience can lead to supervisory or managerial positions.
