Shippers and Receivers

Job description

These individuals ship and receive items from wholesalers and distributors. They work in:

  • Shops
  • Plants
  • Industrial establishments

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions

Main tasks

  • Assemble containers and crates of goods and record their contents.
  • Choose the method of shipping items.
  • Prepare shipping documents (loading notes, customs documents, invoices, etc.).
  • Pack items for shipment and attach identification labels and shipping instructions.
  • Monitor the loading and unloading of items into and out of vehicles.
  • Examine merchandise received, note missing items, and return damaged items.
  • Unpack, code, and distribute items to appropriate storage areas.
  • Manage internal manual or computerized record keeping systems.
  • Operate equipment to load, unload, transport, or store items as required.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience or additional training gives access to supervisory positions.
