Job description

These individuals fit and replace hearing aids on the recommendation of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, or physicians. They are also called upon to modify or replace prostheses. They are self-employed or work for:

  • Audioprosthetists’ offices
  • Speech-language pathology clinics
  • Audiology clinics

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools

Main tasks

  • Examine individuals to determine the degree of hearing loss using assessment techniques and electroacoustic testing.
  • Recommend and prescribe appropriate hearing aids.
  • Take an impression of the client’s ear for the manufacture of the hearing aid.
  • Install, adjust, and modify hearing aids, if necessary.
  • Advise clients on the use, care, and maintenance of hearing aids.
  • Make the necessary follow-ups with clients and adjust their devices.
  • Sell, if necessary, assistive listening devices (teletypewriters, adapted alarm clocks, etc.).
