Job description

These individuals design, make, and repair all types of dentures and braces. They work in dental laboratories. This group includes Dental Laboratory Managers.

Environment

Main tasks

  • Design, make, or repair dentures and braces.
  • Apply manufacturing processes in fixed, removable, orthodontic, and implant-supported dentures:
    • Prepare plasters and moulds from dental impressions.
    • Cast gold or metal alloys for bridges and denture bases.
    • Dab plastics into moulds to form prostheses.
    • Cast wax on plates to form the contour of artificial gums.
    • Make orthodontic braces.
  • Finalize the metal frame of prostheses and polish them.
  • Discuss problem cases with dentists or other specialists.
  • Train and supervise other technicians or auxiliaries.
  • Apply computer-aided design protocols.
  • Advise the dentist, denturist, or physician in the technical choices of particular cases.
