Job description
These individuals record and receive payments from customers who purchase goods and services. Some also sell foreign currency. They work in:
- Businesses (shops, restaurants, cinemas, etc.)
- Sports and recreation centres
- Exchange offices
- General government

- Controlled ambient temperature
Main tasks
- Locate the price of products, services, or tickets and establish the total payment required.
- Weigh the merchandise and bulk products.
- Receive and process the various methods of payment.
- Carry out transactions using a machine (cash register, optical scanner, etc.).
- Pack goods or place them in bags.
- Fill shelves, as required.
- Clean the counter around the cash register.
- Calculate the amounts collected at the end of the shift and reconcile them with the total sales figure.
- Calculate foreign currency exchange rates, if applicable.
- Verify the age of customers purchasing lottery tickets, alcohol, tobacco, or cannabis products.
