Structural Steel Assemblers

Job description

These individuals assemble structural steel components that are used to build various structures (buildings, bridges, etc.). They work for:

Industrial metal manufacturing companies
Residential, commercial, or institutional sectors
Metalwork manufacturing plants
Structural Steel Contractors

Environment

Controlled ambient temperature
Equipment, machinery, tools
Odours
Hazardous workplaces
Noise
Falling objects

Main tasks

Interpret assembly drawings and specifications.
Select the equipment required to perform the work.
Identify the welding to be carried out.
Determine the assembly sequences.
Drill, grind, and cut components.
Make thermal and mechanical assemblies.
Handle and prepare assemblies.
Report technical specifications to other employees.
Check the dimensions and angles of the components.
Finish and check the part after welding.

Advancement and mobility

Qualified Structural Steel Workers receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
The structural steel working trade is closely related to that of Structural Steel Erectors. Erectors work on construction sites while Assemblers work in factories.
