Job description

These individuals carry out technical tasks related to forest research, management, exploitation, and protection. They help plan the construction of access roads and forest paths. They direct and supervise silvicultural activities (tree planting, stand inventories, measurements, etc.). They ensure environmental protection regulations are respected and enforced. They are self-employed or work for:

  • Silvicultural and forestry companies
  • Forest protection and conservation organizations
  • Wood producers’ unions and associations
  • Federal and provincial governments
  • Consulting firms
  • Educational and research institutions .

Main tasks

  • Coordinate activities related to sustainable forest management using photogrammetric and cartographic techniques and computer systems.
  • Monitor the logging operations of tree-felling companies.
  • Supervise the activities of forestry workers assigned to specific tasks (ex.: putting out forest fires, pest control, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Computer Scientists, Statisticians, and Forestry Engineers to develop new information processing tools. *Educate the public and logging companies, advise them, and issue recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain computer databases.
  • Provide technical support to forest engineering research programs.
