Job description

These individuals install and test computer hardware as well as network and operating system software. They make sure they are secure and optimize their performance. They investigate the causes of failures and solve operating problems. They provide technical support to users who are experiencing computer problems. They work for private IT companies and government agencies.

  • Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Manage workstations, user accounts, and Internet access.
  • Update hardware and software related to web servers.
  • Back up and restore data.
  • Implement traffic control and network security software.
  • Perform routine, safety, and quality checks and maintain records thereof.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to various positions (programming, web development, systems analysis, etc.).

Training and requirements

Formation

Bachelor’s degree or diploma of college studies

Sometimes required

  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system is generally considered an asset.
  • Certification or training provided by software vendors may be required.
