Job description

These individuals assess and treat people with hearing and vestibular disorders (e.g. vertigo) and prevent these disorders. They develop people’s ability to communicate and their autonomy. This group includes supervisors. They are self-employed or work in:

  • Hospitals
  • Rehabilitation centres
  • Residential and long-term care centres
  • Private clinics
  • Educational institutions

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Assess hearing and vestibular functions through various tests and examinations.
  • Identify the type and the consequences of hearing and vestibular disorders.
  • Develop and implement an adaptation or rehabilitation program.
  • Inform patients about hearing and vestibular disorders and their treatment.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Conduct research.
  • Train and supervise interns and health care staff.
  • Promote hearing health and healthy communication habits.
  • Prevent hearing problems.
  • Mitigate or eliminate the impacts and risks related to vestibular disorders, including falls.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to management positions.
  • Provincial licence enables mobility between provinces.

Formation

Most training programs are offered in French only.
