Job description

Cardiology Technologists record people’s cardiac activity through medical imaging.

Diagnostic Electrophysiology Technologists use devices that help detect diseases, injuries, and abnormalities.

This group includes Electroencephalography Technologists, supervisors, and clinical instructors.

Main tasks

Cardiology Technologists

  • Record and evaluate patient cardiac activity with electronic devices.
  • Perform cardiovascular function tests on patients.
  • Analyze tests, prepare preliminary reports, and report any abnormalities to other health care specialists.
  • Provide care and medication to patients during procedures and tests.
  • Program pacemakers according to current standards.
  • Check, adjust, and maintain devices.
  • Document and record parameters of cardiac prostheses under the supervision of the cardiac surgeon.
  • Train and supervise students and other technologists.

Diagnostic Electrophysiology Technologists

  • Read patient’s history to determine the nature of the problem.
  • Prepare patients for prescription exams.
  • Set up diagnostic equipment to ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Record the electrical activity of the brain, skull, and central nervous system.
  • Perform electrophysiological tests and annotate graphs to indicate interference.
  • Prepare recordings and draft reports.
  • Check, adjust, and maintain devices.
  • Train and supervise students and other technologists.
