These individuals organize, command and assess the activities of Canadian Armed Forces personnel. They are members of the Royal Air Force, the Army or the Royal Navy.

Main tasks
- Plan, organize and command the activities of a combat unit (armoured, artillery, and infantry battalion, etc.).
- Develop and implement military procedures and policies.
- Coordinate unit activities and assess its performance.
- Oversee the training of subordinates.
- Ensure the physical and moral well-being and discipline of the unit.
- Write reports and make presentations to higher authorities.
- Command and direct the unit in non-combat operations (e.g., disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and peacekeeping missions).
