Job description

These individuals perform support duties for various productions (film, broadcasting, performing arts, etc.). They work for:

  • Radio and television stations
  • Recording studios
  • Film, theatre, and dance production companies
  • Movie theatres

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Electricity

Main tasks

Camera Crane Operators - Film and Broadcasting

  • Drive crane platforms and lifts to maneuver filming equipment.
  • Detect and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Install and replace an electronic control panel.

Production Assistants

  • Provide support to the director and producer.
  • Coordinate travel logistics and equipment required at various locations.
  • Take care of various other aspects of the production.

Film Projectionists

  • Prepare the projection devices (sound, image, light, etc.).
  • Check the projection during the session and intervene as required.
  • Maintain the projection equipment.

Props and Set Builders

  • Prepare, repair, store, make, and track props.
  • Design and repair sets.

Script Assistants

  • Distribute copies of the script to the actors.
  • Take detailed notes concerning scenes, actor positions, and camera angles.
  • Photograph and date the scenes.

Stage Crew

  • Set up, place, move, and dismantle sets, backdrops, and scenes.

Dressers

  • Clean, maintain, transport, and store costumes.
  • Help artists get dressed.

Advancement and mobility

  • Some of the positions in this group may be held by different people depending on the size of the production or the size of the studio.
  • Experience and additional training may lead to technical positions.
