Job description

These individuals design and make a variety of crafts and ornaments. Most of them are self-employed.

Environment

Main tasks

Artisan Sculptors

  • Make sculptures in various materials (wood, stone, etc.) using specialized machines and tools.
  • Sculpt ornamental motifs on wooden furniture and various objects.

Glass Blowers

  • Design and make glass objects using specialized equipment and hand tools.

Goldsmiths

  • Create objects (jewelry, utensils, tools, wall pieces, etc.) using various metals.

Potters

  • Design and make functional and ornamental clay pieces.
  • Use clay and a potter’s wheel, then glaze the pieces and bake them in a kiln.

Stained-Glass Artisans

  • Design windows and coloured glass objects.
  • Cut, paint, bake, and assemble pieces of glass.

Musical Instrument Makers

  • Make musical instruments using hand and power tools.

Weavers

  • Intertwine (by hand or on looms) strips of flexible materials to make handicrafts.

Craft Teachers

  • Prepare craft lessons.
  • Gather the necessary work material.
  • Make demonstrations.
  • Teach craft techniques.

Floral Decorators

  • Design various flower arrangements and floral objects.
  • Choose flowers, branches, and accessories to create arrangements according to customer specifications.
