Patternmakers for Textile Products
Job description
These individuals draw patterns for the production of various items (clothes, shoes, etc.). They may be self-employed or work for patternmakers and manufacturers of textiles, leather, or fur products.

Main tasks
- Examine sketches, test models, and drawings.
- Determine the number of pieces in the pattern and the shape and size of each piece.
- Evaluate the amount of fabric needed to make an item.
- Draw, trace, and cut out the initial pattern to make an article.
- Mark details (pleats, pockets, eyelets, decorative stitching, etc.) on pattern pieces.
- Create patterns of various sizes from the first pattern.
- Lay out the first pattern on fabric and cut out a master pattern.
- Identify the size, number, style, and assembly instructions on the patterns.
