Job description

These individuals prepare, bake, and decorate pastry products (cakes, mousses, pies, etc.). Some also bake specialty desserts (chocolate, sweets, etc.). They work in:

  • Food markets
  • Pastry shops
  • Bakeries
  • Factories
  • Hotels
  • Restaurants

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Odours
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Humidity
  • Noise
  • Fire, steam, hot surfaces

Main tasks

  • Choose the raw materials according to the products to be made.
  • Make and decorate pastries.
  • Advise customers.
  • Pack and label products.
  • Rotate perishable goods according to company policy.
  • Fill refrigerated displays and shelves with products.
  • Order goods as needed.
  • Maintain equipment, displays, and work area.
  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, sanitation, health, and safety standards.
  • Receive goods and store them according to the company’s requirements.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to senior and managerial positions.
  • Qualified pastry chefs receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.

Most training programs are offered in French only.
