Job description

Shoe Repairers repair shoes. Footwear Manufacturers make special or custom-made boots and shoes. These individuals are self-employed or work in:

  • Shoe repair shops
  • Footwear manufacturing plants

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Odours

Main tasks

Shoe Repairers

  • Repair soles, heels, and other parts of shoes or boots.
  • Repair various products and accessories (belts, luggage, purses, etc.).
  • Assess the cost of repairs and collect payment.

Footwear Manufacturers

  • Determine the type of footwear to be made and obtain measurements from customers.
  • Select patterns, leather, or other materials.
  • Select and mount shapes, attach soles, and sew or glue other parts.
  • Cut, trim, and finish boots or shoes.
  • Assess the cost of custom-made shoes and collect payment.
  • Supervise staff, as required.
