Job description

These individuals install various coverings on roofs. These coverings can be composed of hot bitumen, gravel, or shingles. They repair, restore, and renovate roofs. They waterproof surfaces and install roofing insulation. They work on construction sites or for roofing contractors.

Main tasks

  • Assess the condition of roofs to be maintained or repaired.
  • Estimate the cost of materials.
  • Erect scaffolding.
  • Transport roofing membranes.
  • Prepare roofing supports.
  • Lay conduits to collect rainwater (gutters).
  • Seal roofs and fix elastomeric membranes.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Roofers receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.

Training and requirements

Formation

Most training programs are offered in French only.
