Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Repairers
Job description
These individuals inspect motor vehicles to target malfunctions. They repair and maintain mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and components. They are employed by:

Main tasks
Motor Vehicle Mechanics
- Check vehicle components and circuits to target malfunctions.
- Observe the operation of running engines.
- Try vehicles on the road.
- Discuss the work to be done with superiors.
- Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts or components.
- Test repaired systems and adjust them to specifications.
- Carry out periodic maintenance operations (oil change, lubrication, tuning, etc.).
- Discuss with customers the work done, the overall condition of the vehicles, and other repairs to be planned.
Motor Vehicle Repairers
- Check vehicle mechanical systems to target malfunctions and identify their nature.
- Check diagnostics with supervisors to decide whether to repair or replace parts.
- Repair or replace defective components or parts.
- Test the repaired components and adjust them according to the specifications.
- Maintain reports on work performed.
Truck and Trailer Mechanics
- Set, adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of highway transport truck and heavy truck systems.
Advancement and mobility
- Experience leads to supervisory positions.
- These individuals may specialize in various fields (transmission, alignment, suspension, etc.).
- Qualified Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Truck Trailer Repairers, and qualified Truck and Transport Truck Mechanics obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Standards Examination.
