Job description

These individuals maintain and repair recreational and industrial vehicles. They are employed by repair shops, retail stores, and repair companies.

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Noise

Main tasks

  • Read the requests and discuss with superiors the work to be done.
  • Check and test mechanical components (e.g. motors) to identify defects.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts or components (electrical wiring, plumbing, doors, furniture, etc.).
  • Check the operation of the repaired equipment and adjust it.
  • Provide periodic maintenance service.
  • Discuss with customers the work performed and the general condition of the equipment.
  • Determine repair costs.
  • Repair mechanical systems integrated into industrial vehicles (e.g. lifting systems).

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Motorcycle Mechanics obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • Qualified Recreational Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technicians obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • There is some mobility between occupations in this group.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
