Job description

These individuals assemble, adjust, and inspect industrial electrical equipment. They are employed by manufacturers of:

  • Industrial electric motors
  • Transformers
  • Control equipment
  • Locomotives
  • Public transit vehicles

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Noise
  • Electricity

Main tasks

Fitters

  • Assemble and adjust prefabricated parts according to the plans.
  • Make electrical connections using crimping, soldering, and welding devices.
  • Assemble and adjust auxiliary equipment for transformers or electric motors.
  • Install and adjust production machinery and equipment.
  • Perform basic tests on electric motors, as required.

Fitters and Cable Workers

  • Interpret industrial drawings, electrical diagrams, and plans.
  • Adjust electrical control devices in the distribution and control panels, install these panels, and assemble their housings.
  • Install busbars (used to carry high current).
  • Manufacture or modify busbars, as required.

Testers

  • Monitor production and resolve problems that affect it.
  • Check electric motors, transformers, or control equipment.
  • Collect, record, and summarize inspection results.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.

The hourly wage is calculated by averaging wages from 2022 to 2024.
