Assisted-reproduction centres

During the first year of the program, there were some delays in obtaining in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. Consequently, some women lost their eligibility for services insured by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) due to their age.

Therefore, a temporary reimbursement program has been established to reimburse the expenses incurred by the affected women and their families. It is effective since June 1, 2022.

In Québec, clinics require a license to provide assisted reproduction services. They may be located in public hospitals or in private practices.

Assisted-reproduction centres in public institutions

Some hospitals and public establishments provide fertility exams and some medically assisted reproduction (MAR) treatments. These hospital-based assisted reproduction centres provide insured services as well as services at patient’s expense.

Treatments available at these centres may vary. They offer the following services:

  • Stimulation or induction of ovulation
  • Artificial insemination, including monitoring ovarian follicles with ultrasound, with sperm from a spouse, sperm bank or directed donation (known donor)
