Mistreatment Helpline

  • Listening, referral and support telephone service that specializes in the field of mistreatment of older adults and adults in vulnerable situations. It offers services to the general public and to professionals from all sectors (health and social services, finance, etc.). 
    Services offered in French and English (interpreting service available on request for some languages).

Request for an investigation into the mistreatment of a older adult or any other person of full age in a vulnerable situation

  • A number of situations may lead you to file a request for criminal sanctions to be imposed on someone.

Info-Social 811

  • 811

  • Service that gives advice and can answer questions on psychosocial issues. Info-Social 811 professionals can also, if necessary, refer the person to an appropriate resource in the health and social services network or to a community resource. Anyone who lives in Québec can call for themselves or for a loved one.

Caregiver Support Helpline

  • Professional, confidential and free listening, information and referral telephone service for informal caregivers and their families as well as for stakeholders and health professionals.

  • Organization that helps improve the quality of life of informal caregivers and makes their daily lives easier.

Resource in the event of incapacity

Curateur public

  • Organization that ensures the protection of incapable people. It does so by considering what is in their best interest, respecting their rights, safeguarding their autonomy and taking their wishes and preferences into account. The Curateur public also offers services to people who are benefiting from the assistance measure and their assistants.

Service quality and complaints commissioner

  • Receives and examines complaints about care and services received in the health and social services network. Any user of the network who believes their rights have not been respected or who is not satisfied with the services they received can express their dissatisfaction or file a complaint.

Regional coordinators specializing in combatting the mistreatment of older adults

  • The role of the 21 coordinators, deployed in each of the regions of Québec, is to promote collaboration between actors involved in combatting the mistreatment of older adults and any other person of full age in a vulnerable situation.

Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ)

  • Its mission is to promote and uphold human rights and freedoms under the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms. Must also ensure the application of the Act respecting equal access to employment in public bodies.

Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF)

  • Assists consumers of financial products and protects them, for example, in matters of insurance, investments or financial fraud. Also provides information on the prevention of financial mistreatment of older adults and provides training to its members on the subject.
    Some information is available in English.
