Québec’s commitments in respect of the climate

In view of the urgent need for every nation around the world to unite against the climate crisis, Québec has chosen to act and be part of the solution. That is why the Government of Québec committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 37.5% from 1990 levels by 2030. Québec also committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

The government launched the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy to achieve these targets. This framework policy on electrification and the fight against climate change will help make these targets a reality in Québec. It will also help Québec as a society become more resilient to climate change and grow its economy.

Climate disruption brings about a number of issues, and the solutions to overcome them may seem complicated. To solve climate emergency issues, we must rethink how we live and engage every stakeholder in our society.

Québec’s climate transition must involve every member of society, aiming for a just transition (PDF 780 Kb) and taking into account the situations of each of its regions. We need everyone’s involvement to tackle climate change challenges and sustainably transform Québec.
