In Quebec, a person can decide to donate their body to an academic institution so that when they die, it may be used for education or research. Certain criteria apply for a body to be accepted by recognised academic institutions.
Through such donations, college and university students receive practical training in human anatomy through various science and health programs. In these trainings, students practice different discipline-related techniques.
Donations of bodies also enable medical specialists and other health professionals to develop new techniques and procedures for care and intervention.
In Quebec, six academic institutions receive bodies for education or research:
Université Laval
McGill University
Université de Sherbrooke
Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières
Collège de Rosemont
Donating your body to science is done anonymously. Only authorised persons have access to donor information. This information is provided for management purposes only. For their part, students are subject to a code of ethics concerning respect of the body.
